Dr. Rajneesh Tiwari

Dr. Rajneesh Tiwari is a senior disciple of Pandit Chhotelal Misra. He performed most of the video and audio demonstrations on DigiTabla, and was an important consultant for the Benares material.

Originally from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, Rajneesh came to Varanasi in 1998 to study tabla with Chhotelal, and remained with him until his death in 2013.

While in Varanasi, Rajneesh also completed a Bachelor of Music in 2001, a Master of Music in 2005, and a Ph.D in Music in 2016, all at Benares Hindu University. His Ph.D thesis was a comparative study of the North Indian tabla and the South Indian mrdangam systems of percussion.

Rajneesh is now an accompanist at Benares Hindu University’s Faculty of Performing Arts, an A-Grade Artist with All India Radio, and an empanelled artist with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). He performs regularly both in and outside of Benares as both an accompanist and solo artist.
